Founded 2018. Headquartered in Denver. Fourteen partners and senior consultants. We pick about a dozen engagements a year, and we say no to a lot of work to keep that number honest.

Modern Business started with one belief: most consulting agencies make their work harder to understand than it needs to be. We're the opposite. Clear conversations, tight scopes, weekly demos, plain-spoken English.
Our founding partners came out of operating roles at three different industrial holding companies in the upper midwest. We knew what good consulting looked like — and we knew what most of it looked like. We started a firm to do the former.

Half of our growth as a firm has come from saying no to engagements we knew we wouldn't be useful in. Wrong size client, wrong industry, wrong timeline — we'd rather hand it to a peer firm we trust than do mediocre work and watch the referral pipeline dry up.
If we can't explain it in one sentence, it's not the right plan. Most consulting work fails on communication, not analysis.
Move quickly, but never at the cost of trust. We've turned down work twice this year because the timeline would have forced us to cut corners.
More than half our clients come from past clients. That's the metric we watch. It's the only one that survives a market cycle.
